White Widow: A Frosted Legend with Sky-High Potency
White Widow cannabis flowers look like they are straight from a Winter Wonderland. The frosty-looking medium-sized hybrid strain is born from a highly resinous South Indian Indica and a Brazilian Sativa landrace. With a sky-high potency, expect nothing short of a mind-warping high.
This strain’s legacy is rubber-stamped by its double first-place finish in the Bio and Cannabis categories of the 1995 Cannabis Cup. Today, it is the gold standard of trichome-rich strains for many cannabis enthusiasts.
White Widow’s famous pounding effects arise from its potent THC content that averages over 20%. Its CBD content is negligible as it falls below 1% potency. As for the genetic profile, the hybrid shares between 50% sativa and 50% Indica.
The main highlight of White Widow buds is thousands of crystals that look like a white veil, thus the name. The rock-hard nugs enjoy the warmth of bright orange hairs against a lush green backdrop.

Effects and Flavor Profile
From the first whiff of this terpene-rich flower, an immediate dankness lays the foundation for its complex aroma. This initial pungency settles into a more pronounced earthiness, like rain-warmed soil. Spicy accents emerge on the exhale to add a sharp edge and linger.
In your mouth, the smoke welcomes you first with a crisp burst of pine mixed with a refreshing spiciness. As the smoke thickens, you will taste wood notes before getting a nicely balanced sweetness on the aftertaste. White Widow smoke has a velvety smoothness that doesn’t get you unnecessary coughs, especially when well-dried and cured.

Growing White Widow
This strain rewards both novice and experienced growers with bountiful yields with not much hassle. Thanks to its stable and superior genetics, it shows proper resilience against weather elements, pests, and disease. Plus, White Widow is a versatile plant that thrives in different growing setups.
Plant Size and Growth Structure
Despite being a hybrid flower, this strain has a manageable height that will make an Indica landrace envious. An indoor setup towers between 60 and 100 cm, meaning you can get creative with limited spaces. With a long summer outdoor climate and proper nutrition, the plants grow between 150 cm and 190 cm.
Flowering
The average blooming time for white widow plants is between 8 and 10 weeks. You can make it faster by tweaking the lighting cycle for earlier flowering. The plants have an early October harvest outdoors.
Yield Potential
With its heavy resin cover, White Widow retains most of its weight even after drying and curing. Besides the high THC, you can look forward to harvesting 450-500 grams per square meter indoors. On the other hand, outdoor setups yield 600-700 grams per plant on average.

Nurturing White Widow from Seedling to Harvest
Our top cream White Widow feminized cannabis seeds come with a germination guarantee. Using the old-school paper towel method, you should see them germinate in less than 7 days. After sprouting, the plants do well in soil or hydroponic setups with proper care.
Caring for White Widow Seedlings
These young plants are vulnerable in their seedling stage. With delicate roots and inadequate foliage, you will need to optimize the growing environment. This will prevent them from dying while turbocharging their growth.
- Maintain a steady temperature range of around 70-80°F (21-27°C) and a humidity of 65-70%.
- Transplant into an airy growing medium with proper drainage. To avoid nutrient burn, use a well-balanced organic mix.
- Use the misting method to avoid overwatering the young roots. A spray bottle works best rather than a strong water jet that can wash away the plants.
- Use soft light on the seedlings. LEDs are great as you can set a dimmer intensity. This helps prevent excessive stretching while aiding in steady growth.
Thriving in the Vegetative Stage
The vegetative stage prepares the plants for solid flowering. At this point, you can increase the lighting intensity and hours for a robust branching and lush development. An ideal cycle is 18 hours of light and 6 hours of total darkness.
To deal with overgrowth, regularly prune the plants. Low-stress training techniques such as Screen of Green and tying down ensure an even canopy for better airflow and lighting. If the top inch of your growing medium dries off, only use clean water to moisten it to prevent off-setting the pH balance.
Watch out for any nutrient deficiencies, as they can lead to late and poor blooming. Ideally, the vegetative stage loves a rich nitrogen mix. Adding microbes and micronutrients promotes healthy and sturdier growth.

Pro Grow Tip : Keep your White Widow growing strong in the vegetative state with a healthy supply of Nitrogen.
Resin Production in Flowering
During the pre-flowering stage, lower the lighting hours to 12 hours per day. Being a photoperiod feminized strain, White Widow responds to this gradual change by triggering earlier flowering.
To boost resin, trichome, and terpene synthesis, use a nutrient mix predominantly made of phosphorus and potassium. Lowering the humidity levels to about 40% protects the buds from mold attacks.
The plants should be ready to harvest after 8 weeks of flowering. Their milky white resin glands turn cloudy to signal ripening and peak potency. For the smoothest and tastiest smoke, flush the growing medium nutrients about two weeks before harvest.
Origin And History
Since its inception in the 90s, White Widow has inspired numerous cultivars, with some breeders starting from clones and others from S1 genetics.
For the original White Widow, Netherlands-based Green House Seeds blended a landrace Brazilian sativa with an Indica from South India. The result is a worldwide-renowned hybrid that is easy to grow and exciting to smoke.
