Overcoming Growing Challenges with Honey OG
Even the most experienced cannabis grower can run into challenges with their plants. From unpredictable weather to pest attacks, here are proven ways to prevent them.
Common Growing Mistakes
Let us start with the most common mistakes that any rookie grower is likely to face when growing these seeds.
- Overfeeding and underfeeding can affect the plants by stressing them with nutrient burns or stunting their growth. Honey OG is quite sensitive to nutrient deficiencies. Ensure gradual adjustments and check for signs of deficiencies such as leaf discoloration.
- Poor airflow causes stagnant air and moisture buildup, especially in indoor setups. Proper ventilation and air circulation help to keep the humidity in check as well as get fresh air into the grow room.
- Skipping pH checks after planting can lead to spikes or falls from the watering or fertilization. Too much acidity or alkalinity can lock up nutrients in the roots from getting absorbed. Regularly check for the pH of your growing medium.
- Inconsistent watering results in stress for our Honey OG plants. Adequate moisture in the growing medium aids in hydrating the plants. It is also helpful in transporting nutrients. Consistently water your plants adequately after the top inch or two dry out.
- Ignoring Light distance can lead to heat stress or scorching when the plants grow too close to the lights. A good distance is about 50 cm and 100 cm depending on the type of lights you have in your setup.
Choosing the Right Grow Medium
To support the nutrient program of your Honey OG plants, you should also have a good growing medium. Here are the growing mediums to consider for this strain and what each of them offers.
- Organic soil is the perfect choice for rookies. With the added advantage of compost and worm castings, the pants feed naturally without the addition of synthetic nutrients. It may take your plants a little longer to finish but then it enhances the flavors and potency of buds.
- Coco coir is considered the intermediate grower’s go-to. It is lightweight and highly regarded for its improved root aeration. It also supports faster root development with proper moisture retention. You will however need to supplement it with a good feeding regimen.
- Hydroponics is the pro grower’s playground. Delivering nutrients directly to the roots makes it more effective and helps the plants grow bigger and faster. You will need to dial in the right pH and nutrients as any imbalances lead to toxicity in the system.

Growing Honey OG
Honey OG is not the friendliest strain in the grow room for newbies. The temperamental plants need some tender loving and care especially when it comes to nutrition, watering and pest management. Cultivators with a gentle touch can however enjoy its incredible results with ease.
Plant Size & Structure
Honey OG plants have a moderate height outdoors and reach between 110 cm and 140 cm indoors. Growers with limited spaces love it as the canopy tends to spread laterally during flowering.
Flowering Time
This strain finishes blooming in 9-10 weeks indoors. It takes its time to mature but its dense bud development is worth the wait. Outdoors, the crisp air in Autumn signals its readiness for harvest towards the end of October.
Yield Potential
Our Honey OG cannabis seeds are generous yielders. Indoor setups can reward you with 500 grams of resin-packed buds per square meter. With their love for the outdoors, growers enjoy yields of 500 grams per plant.
Pro Grow Tip : Choose a sunny location outside with well draining soil. This strain is ideal for warmer and sunnier climates.
Origin and history
Honey OG is one of the most famous creations from The Honey Spot breeders. Based in California, the breeding house created this resin-drenched bud in the 90s. Its chosen genetics for this strain come from a rare and adored OG #18 and the Amnesia strains.
While OG #18 brings classic West Coast cannabis pomp, the Amnesia comes with award-winning European excellence. Both these strains combine to give off a honey OG strain with deep relaxation and an uplifting cerebral buzz.
