Special Tips On Cultivating Black African Magic Seeds
Optimizing growth conditions is essential to get the most out of your BAM feminized cannabis seeds. The seeds require a moderate to experienced grower’s skill level. It is resistant to pests and disease but sensitive to other growing conditions. Let’s look at the conditions BAM needs to thrive.
Lighting
Here are the different aspects of lighting that you need to take into consideration:
- Light Intensity: Like most sativa-dominant strains, Black African Magic plants love high-intensity lighting. This shortens the vegetative stage and increases resin production. Aim for at least 50-60 watts per square foot during this stage. You can then increase it to about 70-80 watts once the plants get into the flowering stage.
- Light Spectrum: The Light spectrum is often ignored but it matters a lot with photosynthesis. Black African Magic absorbs light best at certain wavelengths. Go for the blue spectrum in the vegetative stage to promote strong stems and foliage as the plants prepare to flower. Red spectrum lights work best in the flowering stage to stimulate denser bud formation.
- Light Duration: Provide 18-24 hours of light per day during the vegetative stage. Longer light periods encourage rapid growth and development. Switch to a 12/12 light cycle (12 hours of light, 12 hours of darkness) to initiate flowering.
- Light Distance: Maintain proper distance between your light source and the plants. Too close, and you risk light burn; too far, and the plants won’t receive enough light. Remember to adjust the height of your lights as the plants grow.
Temperature and Humidity
Maintaining a temperature range between 70-85°F (20-30°C) ensures healthy development of the Black African Magic cannabis plants. If the temperatures go beyond 30°C (86°F), the plants get exposed to stress which in turn leads to stunted growth, potential wilting and even bud damage. On the other hand, cold stressing your plants with temperatures of 15°C (59°F) and below stunts their growth prolonging the vegetative stage. It also weakens their immunity making them susceptible to disease attacks.
CLIMATE INTENDED
Very Hot | Hot | Moderate | Cold | Very Cold |
Humidity should vary based on the growth stage. Go for high humidity as plants thrive in the vegetative stage. This can range between 60 and 70%. As the plants approach the flowering stage, reduce the humidity levels to about 40 – 50%. This protects your plants from mold attacks which hinders optimal resin production.
Soil and Grow Medium
Depending on your experience level growing cannabis seeds, you can choose from a wide variety of growing mediums. Normal soil is regarded as the best place to begin for newbies. Experienced growers can opt for hydroponics as it requires closer attention.
Other growing mediums that you can choose from include coco coir and rock wool. Coco coir is our favorite medium for growing Black African Magic seeds as it offers optimal drainage and a neutral pH. Rockwool offers better root support but also requires experienced-level skills to hack its benefits.
Watering
Overwatering creates higher humidity levels and root rot. Underwatering your plants sends your plants into stress and could also make them wilt. Follow these tips on watering your plants for optimal results.
-
- Avoid overwatering by checking the top inch or two with your finger. If it feels dry then it is time to water.
- Water your plants based on environmental factors like temperature and humidity. Higher temperatures require more frequent watering.
- Check your plants for signs. Plants with drooping leaves are an indication of underwatering while those with discolored leaves mean overwatering.
- Thoroughly saturate your root zone by watering slowly until excess water drains from the bottom of your pot.
- Do not wet your foliage as this promotes fungal infections.
- Use room temperature water to avoid cold shocks to your plants and for optimal uptake.
- Water in the morning to allow excess moisture to evaporate during the day.
Nutrients
During the seedling stage, you should go for a gentle nutrient introduction to avoid burning the weak roots. As the plants enter the vegetative stage, enrich your plants with high nitrogen levels that fuel their foliage growth. Balance it with potassium and phosphorus. At the flowering stage, the plants will need less Nitrogen and more phosphorus for bud development. Do not forget micronutrients in your plants diet. These play a vital role in boosting the plants immunity systems and ensuring optimal development at all stages.
Pro Grow Tip : Be careful on how much light you use. Lights can cause stress, in turn plants can become very leafy and not dense because they are stretched out.
Harvesting
Black African Magic plants have a relatively longer flowering period extending 6-8 weeks. This means they require patience and constant monitoring to harvest them just at the right time. During the harvesting period, use a clean sharp pair of scissors to remove the buds. Handle the buds gently to avoid damaging the delicate trichomes.
Once harvested, the buds need to dry and cure before they are ready for use. Hang them in a dark space with proper ventilation and a controlled humidity of about 60-70%. The optimal temperature required is 18-21°C for a period of one to two weeks.
You will know the buds are well-dried if they snap when bent. Take the buds and place them in airtight containers to proceed with curing. This allows the buds to develop their full flavor and potency. For best results, burp the containers daily for the first few weeks to release excess moisture. Curing can take weeks or even months depending on your preference.
Historic Lineage
The exact genetic makeup of the Black African Magic remains a mystery to date. While the strain is undoubtedly 100% Sativa, there is no reliable documentation of its lineage and ancestry. However, the strain is mostly associated with the Ituri Forest found in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Blessed with the rich biodiversity of a tropical rainforest, the forest is home to indigenous pygmy tribes. African Tribes have cultivated this strain for generations as a result, BAM gets its unique features from a long history in this very unique environment.
